I’m not just about the past here, occasionally I shoot interesting contemporary stuff that I like to share here as well. As I see it, today’s ‘now’ is tomorrow’s Then Was! As you’ve may have already noticed here, Cardiff Bay has been a constant draw for me over the years, and it continues to be so these days as a place we often visit for pleasure and relaxation.
For the last few years the Oval Basin is transformed during the summer holidays into Cardiff Bay Beach, a fun fair extravaganza that the kids absolutely love and the parents live in dread on seeing the cost of the rides. We took a visit earlier this week which gave me an opportunity to indulge my photographing and video making. As you’ll see in the video I’ve made, it absolutely hammered it down. There’s British summertime for you!
It amuses me that back in the early 1990s I was making photomontages as a part of my Fine Art degree down in Cornwall. I’d often cobble together images of the Pier Head and surrounding area and had a thing for putting fair ground rides in that location. At those times the bay was still more way more industrial and derelict than pleasure park, so it looked quite incongruous, but little did I know that I was actually being prophetic!
In the rain and wind, I had my trusty iPhone to hand and took the opportunity to shoot some footage. I cut the best little bits together to make a little video that gives you a taster of the Bay Beach, with a look around the fair and rides, and the experience of the wonderful weather we enjoyed on the day! Following the video are a few photos I took as well.
